Winter Springs , one of the newer municipalities, is the largest in land area. When incorporated in 1959, the name was Village of North Orlando. Winter Springs has experienced almost an 800 percent increase in population since 1970, to over 23,000 residents. The present onset of commercial and industrial development in Winter Springs, which had been wholly residential throughout the 1970s, gives evidence of a new trend for the city. Exciting new developments in Winter Springs are attracting all kinds of attention. The Towne Center Project is developing over 300,000 square feet of office, retail space, including a Main Street that will feature numerous opportunities for shopping, dining and recreation in a beautifully groomed hub for this growing city.
